The practical gear and routines that kept my Arabic practice consistent.
Typing
- Learn the Arabic QWERTY layout on Mac; it takes months but pays off.
- Mobile typing is a separate skill—embrace the standard mobile keyboard.
Hand-writing
- Pilot Frixion Synergy clicker 0.5mm is my favorite erasable pen.
- Erasable ink is perfect for fixing accidental connections in cursive Arabic.
- Blue ink is more readable against black-and-white printed materials.
- 0.5mm tips strike the best balance; 0.15mm feels too scratchy.
- Keep red ink for annotating vocab or meanings.
- Also carry a standard 0.5mm roller ball for signatures or office writing.
